A great weekend for our extended family in the ring and cage.
Friday night saw Prof. Tiago Ferreira win his Mixed Martial Arts match in Sydney by submission. Congrats Tiago from all your friends in Newcastle. Click here to see Tiago's fight
Saturday night we had 3 students fight in the Kyoshi MMA show at Hamilton RSL. Jarrod (co-trained by Mr. Robert Murdoch at Warners Bay) won his second fight for the year, this time by TKO/Ref Stoppage. Doug also scored his second MMA win for the year also by TKO/Ref Stoppage. Tim Dirks was victorious in his MMA debut winning by Rear Naked Choke in the second round. Congrats to all 3 fighters.
A long list of thankyous as always - Coach Paul our head MMA trainer, Simon Taree of NO LIMITS FITNESS, the Heng Kuai team, all of their training partners, and everyone that was there on the night to support them. Special mention to Reuben and Tim our day class instructors and all the daytime crew who have been a huge part of Tim's BJJ development.
Also congrats to Ben Cook fighting out of Heng Kuai who won his Kickboxing debut in Nowra.
Well done everyone!
Competition/Grading Congratulations - Royler Gracie Cup

Congrats to our competitors who fought at the Royler Gracie Cup in Sydney yesterday. We had 4 students compete and they brought home 3 gold medals - well done to all, great job!
Furthermore, congratulations to Phil and Neil on their grading to Blue Belt after the tournament - well done and well deserved!

Thursday night saw Murilo teach a seminar at our academy covering Jiu Jitsu, Submission Grappling, and Mixed Martial Arts.

More Mixed Martial Arts Congratulations - Well done Charles!

Congratulations to Charles (co-trained by Mr Robert Murdoch of Heng Kuai at Warners Bay) who won his fight via submission in the first round in his Mixed Martial Arts debut at Newcastle Panthers on the weekend.
As always thanks to everyon who was part of Charles preparation especially coach Paul who has coached Charles for many years before they both joined as at Beston-Gracie, and Strength & Conditioning Guru Simon "Taree" of No Limits Fitness.
Also thanks to all our team and Charles' friends who were there on the night to support him.
Impact FC

Angela and I had the opportunity to head down to sydney for the Impact FC show yesterday, which was a great show with lots of great fights
There to support Prof. Murillo, he did not get the win, but was able to display some of the beautiful Jiu Jitsu for which he is famous worldwide.
Congratulations to Manny and Richie Vas from GSA & TP Fight Team for their wins from your friends in Newcastle.

Murillo Bustamante coming to Newcastle

Angela has just confirmed with BJJ Legend Prof. Murillo Bustamante that he will be teaching a seminar at our school on Thursday 22nd.
Murillo will be in Australia to fight on the Impact FC card in Sydney.
A Carlson Gracie Blackbelt, Murillo was one of the original Gracie family representatives featured on the Gracies in Action documentaries. Since then Murillo has won the BJJ World Championships, as well as fighting in PRIDE and was the UFC Middleweight World Champion defeating Matt Lindland.
One of the founders of the powerhouse Brazilian Top Team, Murillo has also trained many champions such as current UFC star Rusimar Palhares.

Mario Sperry Seminar Thanks

Prof. Royler Gracie Coming to Australia

Mixed Martial Arts veteran, Jiu Jitsu & Submission Grappling world champion Prof. Royler Gracie will be conducting a seminar in our region 14/8/10.

Also as part of Prof. Royler's 2010 Australian tour, Prof. Bruno is hosting the 2nd Annual GSA Royler Gracie Cup. This will be held 8th August at Sydney Olympic Park. This tournament is open to Gracie Jiu Jitsu schools and affiliates.
Mixed Martial Arts Congratulations

Congratulations to our two fighters Andrew "Sparkle" (co-trained by Mr Robert Murdoch of Heng Kuai at Warners Bay) and Jarrod Coughtrie who both won their Mixed Martial Arts debut fights last Saturday. Both fighters won by guillotine choke in the first round taking our combined record to 4 wins / 0 losses for 2010.
Thanks to the many people who contributed to their success including our head Mixed Martial Arts coach Paul Daniel, Strength and Conditioning Coach Simon Taree, all the training partners, and the people there on the night to support them.
Congrats also to Nathan from the Central Coast Gracie Shark Academy trained by Prof. Tiago and Brendon who won his Mixed Martial Arts Debut by submission on the TUFFA Mixed Martial Arts show also on Saturday.
Finally congrats to BJJ Black Belt Prof. Fabricio Werdum who defeated Mixed Martial Arts Legend Fedor Emelianenko by Triangle Choke in this weekends Strikforce show in California

Gracie Sydney wins NSW State Titles

Congratulations to the GSA who again won the NSW State Titles this year. Our Newcastle academy entered 6 students bringing home 2 gold and one bronze, and our Forster academy had a great day entering 4 students winning 1 gold and 3 bronze.
Congrats to all our athletes and thanks to Simon Taree for his coaching on the day and Ben Cement from Forster who is doing a great job teaching there.

Rodrigo Gracie returning to Australia

ADCC Submission Grappling World Champion, and PRIDE FC Mixed Martial Arts fighter Prof. Rodrigo Gracie will return to Australia for a series of seminars
in May this year. Rodrigo will conduct semianrs at our Newcastle, Central Coast, and Adelaide academies and a number of other schools across Australia.

Congrats to Paul and Doug who both won their Mixed Martial Arts debuts yesterday. Paul won in the first round by RNC submission and Doug won by TKO/Ref Stoppage.

Royce Gracie Australian Tour 2010 Report

Prof. Royce has now completed his annual tour of Australia and once again it was a great couple of weeks. During his time in Oz Royce taught seminars in Newcastle, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, and WA. Thankyou to all the host academies for their great hospitality. Royce's trip this year included the first Australian UFC where Royce attended as a guest. Below are some highlights of the trip

Competition Congratulations - S.A. & N.S.W.

Congratulations to ISOHEALTH Adelaide who last weekend won the South Australian BJJ State Championships. We will post a full list of their medal haul shortly. This is a great achievment for ISOHEALTH and head coach Matt Jones especially considering how new their team is. Well done everybody!
Also yesterday in NSW our Newcastle academy performed well again, bringing home 4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal, with Gracie Sydney Association winning the overall team title. Congrats to all our athletes and thankyou to Simon "Taree" who coached our competitors on the day.

2010 NSWBJJF Tournament Schedule
