Second New Arnis Class on Thursdays

Due to the good response we will now be running a second Arnis class on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 following the MMA class. The class will cover stick and knife offence and defence and lots more. We have all the required equipment at the academy student just need to bring themselves
Friday 20th of January at 6pm we will be hosting Demetri Korzh who will be teaching a Sport Sambo seminar
Coach Demetri is the Head Coach for the Oceania Region and is an internationally recognised coach for Sambo and other combat sports.

Pan Pacific Congrats

Congatulations to our 4 students Doug, JJ, Kendall and Mitch who travelled down to Melbourne recently to compete at the Pan Pacific championships which is the most prestigious Jiu Jitsu competition in our region. Our students competed as part of Prof. Bruno's Gracie Sydney Team which had many great results.
Congrats to our medallists Kendall (Bronze) and Mitch who backed up his 2011 Australian title with Pan Pacific Gold also. Thanks to all our athletes for representing us so well and everyone who helped them prepare.

Thanks to Prof. Rafael "Gordinho" Correa de Lima for his recent 2 day seminar held at at Gracie Oceania in Sydney.
On day 1 Gordinho taught a series of guard passes and attacks from side control and mount, and on day 2 he taught many sweeps and submissions from the closed, open and half guard.
Thankyou to Prof. Mario Yokoyama for organising and hosting the seminar.

Newcastle Academy - New Mats Finished

This weekend the last of the new mats were installed so our renovations are all but complete. The new Zebra MMA floor mats and wall mats are awesome and have received great feedback from our students. Thanks to Pat from Zebra and all the students who helped us set everything up.

Gracie Humaita / GSA wins NSWBJJF State Titles

Congratulations to Prof. Bruno Panno and all the coached and students of the Gracie Humaita team for
winning their seventh consecutive team title. The team won both the Gi and No Gi team trophies
Well done to all the Newcastle students who competed and thanks to all our supporters. A special congrats to our first ever kids team entry on their spectacular results and thanks to the Kids coaches Adam, Jake, and Daniel-San.
Our students brought home 3 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze Medals - congrats to every single one of our representatives and thanks to all our students who were part of their preparation.
NSWBJJF /AFBJJ Referee Course Thanks

Thanks to Prof. Gigante who ran a referee certification course today in Sydney for the NSW BJJ Federation. The course was attended by students from many academies in the State including Luke from Newcastle who all learnt a lot from Gigante's international experience.
Gracie Jiu Jitsu on the Central Coast

Yesterday a bunch of the Newcastle crew travelled to the Gracie Central Coast academy to join in on Prof. Tiago Ferriera's Saturday class.
Tiago taught a butterfly guard pass and 2 sweeps from the half guard, followed by lots of good rolling. Thanks to Tiago for having us and it was great to see a lot of the
original Central Coast guys including Matrat, Brandon, Grande and Joel all on the Central Coast mat.

Also 2 new classes have been added, Tuesday Kids from 5pm to 6pm and Muay Thai Thursday 7pm to 8pm taught by Adam Bourke. Adam is also available for private lessons in Muay Thai for more information please see Angela.
Congratulations to Nick Clark and Adam Bourke on their victories last weekend on the Central Coast at the Kyoshi MMA show. Nick (co-trained by Mr Robert Murdoch / Heng Kuai) won by referee decision and Adam won by TKO ref stoppage in the second round.
Also congrats to Jesse James trained by Prof. Tiago Ferreira on the Central Coast for his victory on the sme event.
Thanks to everyone who was part of our athletes preparation and to everyon who was there on the night to support them.

Congratulations to all our competitors who all did a great job at the tournament on the weekend - a big team showed up from our Newcastle gym and took home quite a few medals. Also congrats to Coach Ben from Forster and Prof. Tiago from the Central Coast the competitors from there had an awesome performance too.
Congratulations to head instructor Prof. Bruno Panno and all the coaches and competitors from the GSA/Gracie Humaita on winning the team title again!

NSWBJJF Submission Grappling Championships 2011

NSW BJJ Federation is running the annual No Gi Comp on 16/04/2011. From this year all competitors MUST wear a rashguard or a Wrestling dress at the event. T-shirts and shirtless will not be allowed. Also, the cost until 11/04 is $50, after this date it will be $60.

Congrats to all our students who competed in the recent Abu Dhabi Pro Australian Qualifiers Tournament. Thanks as always to all those there on the day to support them
and everyone who was part of their preparation. Congrats in particular to Prof. Tiago Ferreira from GSA Central Coast who took second place in the professional black belt division in one of the most stacked tournments in Australian history.
Congrats to Doug Black who won his MMA fight on the Kyoshi show at Mayfiled this weekend. Doug won byo TKO via strikes on the ground.
Congrats also to Ben Cook fighting out of Heng Kuai trained by Mr. Robert Murdoch who won his kickboxing fight at Newcastle Panthers.
